Feel Lost in a Big Church?
How do you get to know people with whom you can be friends, pray and share your life? At Midland Free, that place is the Small Church. A Small Church is an adult gathering that meets on Sunday mornings for teaching and at other times during the week for community.
Family of Believers
Small Churches are more than just adult Sunday School classes. They are designed to build long-term relationships among believers who become like family to one another.

Small Church Objectives
Midland Free Small Church ministry is called to the vision to:
Connect in Community
- Fellowship with others both informally and at planned social gatherings.
- Care for each other through prayer, encouragement, and in practical ways when needs arise.
Transform with Truth
- Learn from Bible study, discussion and personal sharing. All Small Churches teach the Bible exegetically at least six months out of the year.
- Grow spiritually, as you become an active part of the body of Christ and begin reaching out to others, bringing them to Small Church.
Send to Serve
- Serve in the community and in our church. Each Small Church focuses on at least two service projects as well as connecting with missionaries serving outside the Midland area. Many Small Church members recognize their calling to serve on leadership teams within the Small Churches or in other ministries at Midland Free.
Choosing a Small Church
Consider several things when getting connected. It is impractical to think you are going to check out all of the options before finding your place. Attend the same Small Church at least a few weeks in a row to get a better feel for the community.
Several Small Churches at Midland Free are made up of common life stages. For example, Becoming One is primarily young couples and young marrieds.
Some Small Churches have a distinct format:
- Extensive time spent in prayer or discussion
- Schedules to accommodate people already serving elsewhere in the church (Ministry Makers)
- Deeper Bible study content (W.E.L.L.)
- Introductory Themes (Pathfinders)
Unsure where to start? Ask someone to introduce you to their community.
