Jay Childs, Senior Pastor

Pastor Jay grew up in Southern, California. He is a graduate of Cornerstone University (B.A. in Comparative Religion and Philosophy), and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he received his Masters and Doctoral degrees.

Before coming to Midland Free in 1990, he pastored a church in rural Minnesota for three years. He is married to Becky, and they have three teenagers. Pastor Jay and Becky also have a burden for mobilizing, supporting and encouraging workers on the mission field. They have traveled to numerous countries together to this end. They have also been involved in training and equipping national pastors in Russia. Pastor Jay has also taught at a seminary in India.

Responsible for leadership and oversight of the pastoral and professional staff and oversight of the administrative and business affairs of the church. Also responsible to ensure implementation of the church vision mission, strategic objectives and core values. Also serves on the Elder Board.

David J. Jebaratnam, Executive Pastor

Pastor David Jebaratnam grew up in a village in Sri Lanka. He is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. He is also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1986 and a graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity in 2003. David seeks to lead people and teams through vision discovery and strategy development.

Before coming to Midland Free in August 2006, he served as Pastor of Missions & Outreach Team Leader at Grace Chapel in Lexington, Massachusetts. David and his wife, Gem, have two daughters.

Rod Lyon, Worship Arts Pastor

Rod Lyon became Worship Arts Pastor in June 2004 after serving as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church Sweetwater in Longwood, FL. He has also served churches in similar capacities in Alabama and Kentucky. Rod and his wife, Carol, have two adult daughters, one son-in-law and one granddaughter. Rod graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Master Church Music, Minor Counseling & Biblical Studies) and Jacksonville University (Bachelor of Music).

Rod has a passion to know and make known the person of Jesus Christ and to see the people of God know Christ and make Him famous. Seeing and savoring Jesus Christ is our highest aim. These things flow out of our vision to Make, Mature and Multiply disciples. It is also Pastor Rod’s desire for himself and those who minister within Worship Arts to be these things:

Passionate about the Person of Jesus Christ through a vital, faithful and authentic daily life of faith

To love each other without reserve or condition

Gib Giblin, Care Pastor

Gib became Care Pastor in June of 2001 after serving churches in Austin, Texas and Grandville, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Texas (BS) and Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM). Gib and his wife, Caroline, have four children.

Pastor Bill is passionately devoted to develop and promote the disciplemaking process from cradle to grave at Midland Free.

Bill Johnson, Family Discipleship Pastor

In our church mission to make, mature, and multiply disciples, Pastor Bill is passionately devoted to develop and promote the disciplemaking process from cradle to grave at Midland Free. Pastor Bill leads the Family Discipleship Ministries which includes coordination of Children's Ministries, Middle School Ministries, Senior High Ministries, REAL (twentysomething) Ministries, Adult Ministries, and Community Life Ministries.

In directly leading Adult Ministries, Pastor Bill has oversight of Small Churches, Small Groups, Women's Ministries, Men's Ministries, The Soul Institute, Spiritual Transformation Ministry, and Spiritual Gifts Ministry.

In directly leading Community Life Ministries he oversees development of Church Wide Fellowship, Family Focus Ministry, Neighborhood Connections, Library, Sports and Rec Ministry, Seniors Ministry.

Pastor Bill is the Pastoral Staff leader for the Leadership Summit and leads the Spiritual Gifts Ministry. In order to develop this range of ministries, Pastor Bill is absolutely committed to equip believers to do the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-16).

Pastor Bill became Midland Free’s Family Discipleship Pastor in July 2004 after serving as Pastor of Leadership Development in Minnesota and Adjunct Professor at Bethel Theological Seminary. Prior to living in Minnesota, Pastor Bill served as Senior Pastor of international churches in the Republic of Panama for ten years and in Honduras for five years. Bill and his wife, Marla, have been married for 27 years and have three children, one teen-age son and two adult daughters. Pastor Bill holds a Doctor of Ministry with a concentration in spiritual formation from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School; a Master of Arts in Religion and Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary, a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Counseling from the University of Nebraska, and an undergraduate degree from Wheaton College.

Steve Scott, Outreach Pastor

Pastor Steve became the Adult Ministries Pastor in September 1996 after serving an Evangelical Free Church in Bloomington, Illinois and Youth for Christ in central Illinois. Following his passion for outreach ministry, Pastor Steve became Outreach Pastor in April, 2002. He graduated from Bradley University (BS in Psychology/Secondary Education) and from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary with a Masters of Religious Education degree and is a candidate at Trinity Evangelical Divinity Seminary for an Intercultural Studies M.A. degree. He and his wife, Vicki, have five children.

Bev Steel, Children's Director

Bev became Children’s Director in September 2007 after serving at Midland Free for many years as Sunday School teacher, Children’s Worship coordinator, CE Board member and Women’s Bible Study leader. She has also served in Bible Study Fellowship as Substitute Teaching Leader and Children’s Leader. Bev holds a Master's Degree from the University of Illinois in Speech and Language Pathology. She and her husband, Tom, have 3 children.

Responsible for the middle school programs and staff. The goal of middle student ministries is to build disciples in 6th through 8th grade students so they can love and serve the Lord with all of their heart, mind and strength not only during their school

Chuck Lloyd, Middle School Pastor

Chuck became Youth Pastor in October, 1995 after serving a Methodist Church in Brick, New Jersey. He graduated from the University of Missouri (BA in Math Education). Chuck and his wife, Nicole, have three children.

Jeff Andridge, High School Pastor

Jeff became High School Pastor in January, 2004 after serving at Brethren Church in Elkhart, Indiana. Pastor Jeff has been involved in youth ministry for 16 years. He graduated from Michigan State University and Wheaton Graduate School with an MA in Educational Ministry. He and his wife, Kassie, have four children.

Jill Stoddard, Interim Operations Director

Jill has served in the position of Controller since 2004 and assumed the duties of Interim Operations Director in Spring 2008. Jill has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Grand Valley State University and has attended Midland Free since 1997. Jill, her husband, Rob, and their three children are preparing for deployment to Japan as full-time field workers with ReachGlobal within the next year.
